In keeping with the 10-year-ish cadence of author Donna Tartt’s output (The Secret History, 1992; The Little Friend, 2002; and The Goldfinch, 2013 (surely another one is coming any day now), I too am overdue for another novel. My most recent (Quantum Deadline, 2015) requires a sequel, if only to explicate its predecessor. Granted, I’m no Donna Tartt (I’m barely a Daedalus Howell), but if she and I we’re having a race, I just might make it to the finish line with my next, comparatively slim 250-word genre mashup, before she drops her next big, fat Pulitzer-winning doorstop.
